Timi Yuro was one of the first artists whose music was branded “blue-eyed soul”, a singer from Chicago’s Italian-American community whose music blended the more sophisticated pop sounds of the early 60s with the music styles associated with the African-American vocal groups of the era. She became something of cult figure both in the USA and among the cognoscenti of early American soul in the UK. This 55-track 2-CD collection captures the essence of her early career as she burst onto the scene with a string of hits. It comprises the A and B sides of her Liberty singles during the first couple of years of her career, plus all the tracks from her Liberty albums “Hurt!!!”, “Soul”, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” and “What’s A Matter, Baby” not featured on singles. It features her US No. 1 “Hurt” and her other US hits from this era “I Apologise”, “Smile”, “She Really Loves You”, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”, “What’s A Matter Baby” and “The Love Of A Boy”, as she worked with the fine producer and arranger Clyde Otis and Belford Hendricks to create a trademark style and sound. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable showcase for one of the most stylish and influential performers of her era.
